CagriSema
Novo Nordisk's combination of an amylin analog with semaglutide (the active ingredient in Wegovy®).
CagriSema pairs semaglutide with cagrilintide, a long-acting version of amylin, a hormone that signals fullness. The two act on different appetite pathways.
What the research shows
- In the REDEFINE 1 Phase 3 trial, participants lost about 20% of body weight on average over 68 weeks.
- Side effects resembled other GLP-1 medications and were mostly gastrointestinal.
- Novo Nordisk has pursued regulatory approval. Check FDA announcements for its current status.
Doses used in research
From the 68-week REDEFINE 1 Phase 3 trial. CagriSema was given as a single once-weekly injection.
| Stage | Weekly dose |
|---|---|
| Escalation | Gradual step-ups from a low starting dose |
| Target maintenance | Cagrilintide 2.4 mg + semaglutide 2.4 mg |
- Investigators could slow or reduce step-ups if side effects weren't tolerated.
- Average weight change at 68 weeks was −20.4% with CagriSema versus −3.0% with placebo (−22.7% among participants who stayed on treatment).
