Aseptic reconstitution: lab handling

  1. Wash your hands and work on a clean, disinfected surface.
  2. Let the vial reach room temperature.
  3. Wipe both vial stoppers with a fresh alcohol swab and let them air-dry.
  4. Add the diluent slowly, aiming the stream down the inside wall of the vial rather than directly at the powder.
  5. Swirl or roll the vial gently until the powder dissolves. Never shake.
  6. Label the vial with the compound, concentration and date, then refrigerate.
  7. Throw it out if the solution turns cloudy or discolored or contains particles.
Use only sterile, sealed diluent from a reputable source, and dispose of sharps in an approved sharps container.
